WELCOME TO
X INTERNATIONAL OLIVE SYMPOSIUM
Dear colleagues, researchers and friends of the olive sector,
We are pleased to announce the X INTERNATIONAL OLIVE SYMPOSIUM, which will take place in Palermo, Italy, from 4 to 8 October 2027.
The symposium is organized under the auspices of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) and will be convened by Dr Tiziano Caruso, Dr Francesco Paolo Marra, and Dr Riccardo Lo Bianco (University of Palermo). The event is held within the framework of the ISHS Division Temperate Tree Fruits and Working Group Olive Culture, with the support of ISHS Division Plant Genetic Resources, Breeding and Biotechnology.
This international event will bring together scientists, researchers, growers, industry representatives, and professionals from around the world to share recent advances in olive research and cultivation. The symposium will provide a multidisciplinary platform to discuss progress across the olive value chain, including genetic resources and breeding, orchard management, plant physiology, pest and disease control, mechanization, precision agriculture, and olive oil quality.
Palermo, the capital of Sicily, lies in the heart of the Mediterranean basin, one of the most important regions for olive cultivation. Sicily hosts a remarkable diversity of olive cultivars and a long tradition of olive growing and oil production.
The main topics of the scientific sessions will include:
- Biodiversity, biotechnology and breeding
- Sustainable productive models and management
- Ecophysiology and abiotic stress
- Biotic stress
- Xylella fastidiosa
- Technologies and product quality

The symposium will include plenary lectures, oral and poster sessions, technical tours, and social activities designed to encourage discussion and collaboration among participants.
We look forward to welcoming you to Palermo in October 2027.
Sincerely,
